Jonathan Majors in Talks for Creed III

According to Deadline, Lovecraft Country star Jonathan Majors is set to play Adonis Creed's next boxing opponent in Creed III. The film will mark Michael B. Jordan's first time behind the camera in the director's chair and he is starting it off right as negotiations are still underway to have rising star Majors in the lead role. The film is already bringing back Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad and it looks like they are just working through the logistics of Majors' busy production schedule as he has become quite the A-List movie star following his breakout performance in The Last Man in San Fransisco to his fantastic turn in Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods and his latest high profile role as Kang The Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

As far as Michael B. Jordan opponents go, Majors is a pretty even matchup physically for a change. He is listed at 6 feet tall, the same as Jordan, and is about the same weight. Although Jordan may be a bit heavier with a lot more muscle for his latest turns in action films Black Panther and Without Remorse. Which is good news because in his last two Creed films, Adonis was heavily overmatched fighting the number one pound for pound fighter in the world, Ricky Conlan, in the first film. (Spoilers) He ends up losing but his dogged determination and fight to the end earns him the respect of his opponent and the boxing world. And in Creed II, Adonis at a mere 6 feet and 214 lbs. (heavyweight) fought son of Ivan Drago, Viktor Drago at a whopping 6 feet 4 inches and 245 lbs. Look, I get it. The Rocky and Creed movies are about the proverbial underdog but it's nice to finally see him in a fair fight for once. Or will it be a fair fight at all?

Which is not to take away from Jonathan Majors' physicality at all. In fact, from the little I've seen him in (Da 5 Bloods, Lovecraft Country trailers), he looks to be in tip top condition and I'm sure he will go through a rigorous training camp just to be able to perform in the high intensity boxing sequences for the film. His character in the Ant-Man sequel is probably a very physically demanding role to play, as well. But the wildcard standout to me in his most recent filmography is The Harder They Fall, an upcoming American western film from director Jeymes Samuel, written by Samuel and Boaz Yakin, produced by Lawrence Bender, Jay-Z, James Lassiter, and Samuel. The film also stars Idris Elba, Zazie Beetz, Lakeith Stanfield, Delroy Lindo, and Regina King. Wow! Just wow. That cast alone has me highly anticipating this film but we'll have to wait for a trailer to see just how promising it really is. But I'm all in for the Black Cowboy Western Action Film. And I'll be looking at Majors' career very closely.

What do you guys think? Are you looking forward to see Jonathan Majors in Creed III?
